1. Driver checks
Drivers must hold a valid driving licence for the vehicle category, meet the age and experience criteria set by Velaire and its insurer, and provide accurate personal, address and contact details.
2. Age and licence history
Minimum age, licence-held period and endorsement rules can vary by vehicle, insurer and hire profile. Performance SUVs, convertibles and high-value vehicles may require a longer clean licence history, additional approval or a higher excess.
3. Documents we may request
- Driving licence and, where relevant, a DVLA check code or licence summary.
- Proof of address dated within the requested period.
- Photo ID or selfie/ID verification where required for risk checks.
- Payment method and deposit details in the customer or approved driver's name.
4. Insurance conditions and excess
Insurance approval may depend on age, licence history, endorsements, convictions, claims history, vehicle model, intended use, hire duration and delivery location. Excesses, mileage limits and usage restrictions may apply to the confirmed booking. Any insurance excess or damage liability will be confirmed in the booking-specific hire agreement before handover.
5. Approved use
Vehicles are supplied for agreed road use only. Track days, racing, pace-making, off-road use, sub-hire, unauthorised commercial use or use outside agreed geography are not permitted unless expressly approved in writing.
6. Official driving guidance
GOV.UK notes that hire companies may ask for licence information or a check code, and that drivers must meet legal obligations before driving. See GOV.UK vehicle hire guidance and GOV.UK driver obligations.
Super SUVs, performance models and high-value vehicles may have stricter insurance, deposit or age requirements than standard vehicles.
